Governance Advisory Services

I never intend for this blog to be a 'plug' for my company's services, but I must admit that it brings a smile to my face when I see that our unique approach to tackling certain issues is reinforced in the blogosphere.

James McGovern certainly has more 'juice' than I with his blog and he recently discussed the practice of software vendors utilizing C-Level IT executives to serve on their advisory boards.  As James correctly points out, this practice might be effective for a little marketing or PR pull, but the knowledge-capital that IT executive brings to the table can many times be very disappointing.

By utilizing Enterprise Architects for your advisory boards, you are gaining the insight of an individual who a) has a passion for what they do and typically enjoys sharing that with others b) will have hands-on knowledge of technology and business processes that are unique and provide immediate value and c) will typically provide their services at a much lower rate than a C-Level figurehead.

Sometimes getting the word out is half the battle, but I can tell you that the Architects that we have retained to provide governance advisory services are excited to share their knowledge and gain exposure to new businesses and industries.  They are compensated for their time, but this cost is minimal when you consider the knowledge capital that a company is receiving.

On a personal note, I'm off to Israel for 2 weeks of vacation.  Please feel free to email me as the Treo is still a great gizmo and I will have full access to email.  I'll try and blog as much as possible from the Middle East and provide some pictures as well.
