InfoWorld is pulling out all the stops and putting up a lot of material in front of their SOA Executive Forum Conference this week in New York. One area that they focus on is governance.
I’m no Architect, but it appears as though governance pulls in two directions. You can’t move forward without it and your project can also be stifled by it.
The automation of SOA governance also has its proponents and detractors. Should the focus be more on the processes and policies or on the people driving the projects forward? Can such a hard-line approach be taken with any SOA project?
I’ll leave this argument to the experts, but one area that I can speak to from personal experience is how project success is hindered in the enterprise by financial governance. Implementing SOA principles within your organization might be a ‘business’ decision, but it’s a business decision that needs to be made within IT.
